Editing Guidelines

Images

Please make sure to use smaller images (preferably 256x256 or smaller for embedded images). While there is currently an excess of unnecessary whitespace on this wiki, the majority of it should be filled by a dense amount of mostly-text information, and not large images. If we have a wealth of images for a particular subject, make use of the gallery feature (as seen in the articles for the newer maps).

  • Please make sure to label all images using the full name of the object that they are describing (this is for search purposes and ease of use).
  • Avoid using stock images from the official Savage 2 website when possible.
  • Do not use old screenshots or beta screenshots. This guide is meant to have information that is pertinent to play on the current retail version of Savage 2.

Article Interconnection

Make sure to check the Orphaned Pages and Dead-End Pages lists every so often. Optimally, there should be no articles in either list. We should have it so that every page is interconnected so users can browse using inline links rather than having to frequently search or use the sidebar to browse this wiki.

Filename Conventions

Mediawiki does not provide an easy method for renaming uploaded files (basically, you have to delete and then re-upload the image). Please make sure to obey the following rules when posting files (particularly images). I understand that there are existing files which do not follow this convention. They will be replaced over time.

[name(1)]_[type(2)]_[number(3)].[extension(4)]

  1. The name of any uploaded file should be the name of the object, such as "steam_mine", "malphas", "major_healing_potion", etc.
  2. The type should indicate whether this is a screenshot, icon, logo, chart, etc.
  3. The number should be included if this file is part of a series (followed by leading zeros).
  4. Please make sure to use an appropriate file extension for the file that you are uploading. Smaller images such as icons should be uploaded in .gif format to preserve clarity and reduce file size. Larger images should be in .jpg format to reduce file size. Please do not post screenshots taken directly from Savage 2 without re-saving them as .jpg with about 60-75% compression (more or less visually lossless, but a significant reduction in file size).
