Wiki Discussion

From Savage 2 Strategy Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

I would like to use this page to discuss issues that are central to the operation of this wiki. This page should primarily be for issues like template concerns, editing methods, and the split between subjective and objective content. Any suggestions that would improve the overall experience of this wiki are welcome as well. I'm going to set up some minor sections now and we can post our comments in some sort of organized fashion over time. Please follow the comment and signature method that everyone appears to have accepted and is currently in use until we can decide on something else.

  • Please refer to the special pages section for useful lists and other information that may help you edit this wiki.
  • Discuss wiki-side concerns here.

Contents

Infoboxes

I would like to come up with a full list of infoboxes in addition to a list of mandatory fields that would apply to any particular infobox (such as basic information that would apply to all buildings within a building infobox). Optional fields (such as area of effect in an ability infobox which would not apply to all abilities that use the ability infobox) will need to be figured out on a case by case basis. As of the moment, the current members of the wiki have not been able to create an infobox that handles optional fields in sufficient way. If you can shine light on the optional field issue, please post a comment.

  • Need to come up with a list of infoboxes to have as well as the fields that each infobox should have.

Objective and Subjective content

I would like to maintain a strong split between objective and subjective content whenever possible. It should be very easy for a user who is reading this wiki to differentiate between a fact such as a statistic which cannot be disputed and opinions and suggestions. If there's anything that you would like to contribute that could be disputed, please either attach your name to the contribution or post it in the discussion page fro an article.

  • Need a strong split between subjective and objective content.
  • I would prefer a focus on objective content and content that has been agreed to by most of the community.

Part of the reason why I would like a focus on objective content as much as possible is to avoid any sort of potential arguments that could turn into flames and risk damaging the great community of editors we have who are doing a great job on this wiki.

  • I would like as much input as possible from the editing community so we can make sure that things run smoothly.

Editing Concerns

I would like to have more users editing the sections of the articles where they are contributing or modifying content rather than editing the entire article. With the amount of people who are now working on this wiki, it's much easier to prevent users' changes from colliding (providing the potential for contributions to be lost) if users narrow down their focus to the particular section that they're working with.

  • Please edit only the sections that you are working with, not the entire article.
  • Make sure to fill out the "summary" field at the bottom of the editing page so we can have an idea of what's being updated in an article without having to sift through the list of differences.
  • If at all possible, use a web browser that has a built-in spell check feature for form fields. Firefox supports this.

Objectives

Was thinking it would be a great idea to have a page (perhaps only available to registered users) that lists the objectives for this wiki, some kind of a direction. If someone comes up with an idea that should be covered on the wiki, but perhaps does not know enough about it to write and article, they could post the idea there and someone else can grab it, and flesh out an article. Might be a nice idea to have a few things that we're currently working on, so that the wiki has some direction, and doesn't become too much of a mess of articles.

Map Screenshot Descriptions

I've added a fresh batch of screenshots (and updated minimaps when appropriate) for every map. If someone would like to go ahead and write a few words worth of description for each ("Human Base" or "Northwest Mine" or "Path near a scar" would be fine), I'd really appreciate it. If not, I'll get around to updating them eventually.
